As many as a quarter of Australian workers are now earning $1,532 a week in their jobs, as the number of high-paid workers is apparently on the rise. The latest figures from the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) show for the first time how much different demographics earn.
The Survey of Employee Earnings and Hours found that a quarter of full-time employees currently earn at least $1,850 per week. In May 2014, the ABS revealed that full-time employees comprise 60 per cent of the total workforce, with men more likely to take up permanent roles than women.
The ABS offered insight into the amount non-managerial employees can expect to earn in their roles. Their average weekly cash earning stand at $1,100.40, with average working hours standing at 31.2.
Full-time female workers in these jobs were found to work slightly less hours than their male counterparts, with an average of 38.3 hours a week compared to 40.5. Their pay was also lower at an hourly cash rate of $34.40, as opposed to $39.10 for men.
Business owners need to ensure they keep track of their employee earnings, which can be made possible through the use of HRIS software and other products.
The ABS also indicated that much of the Australian workforce is over the age of 35, with 59.7 per cent of workers fitting into this age bracket. However, just 37.3 per cent were more than 45 years old.
Managers were found to have the highest weekly total cash earnings at $2113.80, while also registering the highest average age of all the professions at 44.2 years. Sales workers were at the other end of the spectrum with the lowest weekly earnings ($628.60), as well as being the youngest at an average of 33.3 years.
