Get ready for Safe Work Australia Month

Being safe at work is something all employers should ensure – it’s not only their legal responsibility, but also their moral duty towards their employees.

Safe Work Australia Month aims to highlight workplace safety and is scheduled for October, giving managers up and down the country an opportunity to address important issues.

An app is available for download, which aims to encourage employers and workers from all over the country to focus more on health and safety.

“This year’s theme is ‘Work safe. Home safe’ is a reminder that the most important reason for staying healthy and safe at work is not at work at all – and we all want to return safely home to our friends, family and loved ones,” said Safe Work Australia’s Acting Chief Executive Officer Michelle Baxter.

The app outlines all the events that are taking place throughout the country, as well as a host of safety tips that can be implemented in the workplace.

Employers will find there are various other ways to get involved, such as by attending one of the meetings held as part of the Australian Strategy Virtual Seminar Series.

This is a free online event that will be held all the way through October. It brings together the latest health and safety research, as well as any developments and innovation made in the industry.

Other initiatives include registering as a Safety Ambassador and entering into the Workplace Participation Award scheme, which is being held for the first time this year.

Safe Work Australia recently encouraged employers to be more aware of mental health issues within their businesses, as this can bring far-reaching benefits to an organisation.

Alternatively, you might want to think about investing in HR consulting, which can be especially valuable if certain workers are finding aspects of their job difficult to cope with.
